Mission Statement
The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Historical Commission’s purpose is to promote the preservation and understanding of the rich history of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the oldest appellate court in the United States. The Commission’s goal is to foster an appreciation of the importance of the Court’s role in shaping the development of law and society in Pennsylvania, and the Court’s impact on the nation.
To achieve this mission, the Commission undertakes a variety of activities, including the collection and preservation of historical materials related to the Court and its Justices, the publication of scholarly works on the Court’s history and legacy, and the organization of educational programs and events designed to promote public awareness and understanding of the Court’s role in Pennsylvania’s legal system.
Through these efforts, the Commission seeks to honor the Court’s past achievements, while also encouraging informed civic engagement and the advancement of the law in Pennsylvania.
